A quote from Hillary Clinton aptly sums up the thoughts and feeling of the cast & crew:  “There cannot be true democracy unless women’s voices are heard.  There cannot be true democracy unless women are given the opportunity to take responsibility for their lives.  There cannot be true democracy unless all its citizens are able to participate fully in the lives of their country.”

Theatre Oxford with the

Office of International Programs
and the

Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies presents

Seven

by Paula Cizmar, Catherine Filloux, Gail Kriegel, Carol K. Mack, Ruth Margraff, Anna Deavere Smith & Susan Yankowitz.

Theatre Oxford will be presenting ‘Seven’, a documentary play that weaves the stories of seven extraordinary women leaders from around the world.  Based on interviews with these courageous women, the play offers a glimpse into their lives as they dealt with oppression, adversity, physical threats & abuse.  They not only survived, but were able to turn those seemingly insurmountable obstacles into the fight for justice and freedom for women and children worldwide.

In 2006, Vital Voices, an international non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting women’s leadership worldwide, connected seven award-winning playwrights with seven women from its Global Leadership Network

In the following months, the playwrights collected personal interviews and oral histories from each of these extraordinary women.  Inspired by their tales of triumph, the playwrights gave voice to these women’s experiences, collaboratively working together to produce the documentary play, Seven.
