Audition FAQ

I read your Current Audition Page and still have questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should I prepare a monologue?
A: It depends on the show. We often provide a selection of monologs or scenes from which you can choose to prepare an audition; however, we also utilize cold reads. A cold reading means the director will give you a scene to read from the show script at the time of the audition.

Q: Do I need a headshot and resume?
A: No. If you have one, feel welcome to bring it (especially the resume; it’ll be easier than writing your experience on the form). But we’ll take your picture at the audition and have a form for you to fill out.

Q: Do you precast shows?
A:
No, and we love seeing both new and familiar faces!

Q: I have another question.
A: Please email us at theatreoxford@gmail.com. We’re happy to help.

General Information

Audition requirements will vary depending on the show and the director. For updates, follow us on social media (@theatreoxford), join our mailing list, or check back here frequently.

Along with a synopsis of the show and a character breakdown, we will often provide monologues or scenes for you to prepare in advance. If you do not have time to prepare, we are happy for you to deliver a cold reading from the script.

Please print and fill out this Audition Form to bring with you to the audition. If you cannot print, no worries. We will have forms at the audition. Please bring your list of conflicts between now and show time!

If you need to deliver a monologue, and you do not already have one prepared, you can choose one from The Monolog List to prepare and present. The director may have you read with other actors from the play scripts after your monologue.

Virtual Audition Option

We strongly encourage live auditions. If you are unable to attend auditions in person, please send us and audition video. Fill out our Audition Form, record a monologue (your choice) or scene provided under “what to prepare.” Email your audition form and a link to your audition video to theatreoxford@gmail.com by the end of in-person auditions (day and time).

Time Commitment

Rehearsals usually take place Sunday through Wednesday evenings, with the exception of the final week. Technical and dress rehearsal week, actors will be at the theatre each night.
